Globally relevant standards play a significant role in international industry, compliance, and relations. Learn about the IEEE Standards Association and how IEEE Standards are developed and used around the world.

This session will introduce the existing IEEE standards landscape and process, with specific attention given to how users can get involved in the process at different levels, such as IEEE Standards Committees and Working Groups.

John Bill Lawrence (Senior member of IEEE, Principal Engineer for Hazardous Locations with FM Approvals; US TAG Chairman of IEC TC31) will provide an in-depth exploration of challenges and solutions associated with the choice of what standards to use for hazardous locations. Includes overview of legal and equipment requirements, as well as certification and installation discussion. IEEE and other international standards that address these issues will be explored.

Humans working in power system are exposed to fatal arc flash risks with associated temperatures four times hotter than the sun surface. As arc flash constitutes a worldwide safety concern, the standards play vital role to reduce arc flash incidents. This session will discuss the following topics:
